The Skeletal Age of the Elbow Joint of the Four-year-old Korean Children
Moon Eung-Ju

Abstract
The maturity state of the ossification center of elbow joint was evaluated roentgenologically in the four-year-old normal Korean children, 40 boys and 20 girls respectively. The skeletal scoring system was adopted in classifying the various maturing phase of the epiphyses and the comparative study of each score was done. The results were as follows.
1. Of the six epiphyses of the elbow joint, the capitellum had 100% appearance rate in both sexes, while the rest of them showed no appearance yet in boys, but in girls the radial head had 25% appearance rate and the medial epicondyle 50%, and the other three, i.e., the trochlea, the olecranon, and the lateral epicondyle, showed none at all.
2. The skeletal score of the capitellum was 2.98¡¾0.76 for boys and 3.71¡¾ 0.55 for girls. The scores of the radial head and the medial epicondyle for girls were 0.25¡¾0.44 and 0.83 ¡¾0.92 respectively. The scores of these three epiphyses were consistently higher than in boys.
3. Total maturity score was 2.98 for boys and 4.79 for girls, that of the girls being 1.81 higher than that of the boys.
4. Total skeletal scores of the four-year-old children, compared to that of the six-year-old one was lower by 1.85 for boys and 2.95 for girls.
The results of this study may be valuable in that it has provided a. standard for the skeletal maturity state of the four-year -old Korean children.
